Plovers in the Waves
Plovers in the Waves
The waves are a metaphor for the world and
the meaning of the design is that of overcoming
difficulties together, therefore it often stands for
matrimonial happiness or families’ safety and
wellbeing.
The name is a Japanese pun: the characters
for “plovers in the waves”, 千鳥, have the same
pronunciation as the characters 千取り, which
literally translates to ”to take a thousand” and
refers to “receiving 1000 good fortunes”. For this
reason, it is associated with meanings such as
luck at winning and goal achievement.
The pattern is therefore a symbol of good luck,
carrying a wish for a tranquil life among the
infinite waves of life.
